Windows 8 has been launched by Microsoft with many new feature which was not available in previous version of Windows as we all know. One of the best feature of Windows 8 is “Fast Startup” that is also known as Hybrid Boot. The work of this feature is to save the current kernel session and device drivers in hyberfil.sis, whose memory is about 4-8 GB or more.
Using this concept, Windows 8 is able to give us about 30-65% fast startup, after shut down. Hence compared to its earlier versions, Windows 8 wins the race in this segment. If you have a motherboard with UEFI, then the Fast Startup will be even faster.
But there are some settings which can be configured to disable the fast startup function. If you are using multi-user system, it may be possible that some other users may tweak this setting, and you might not be able to enjoy the fast startup. You may also wondering why your Windows 8 is booting suddenly slowly.
I have already covered in this article using registry hack you can do this. Now I am covering it through Group Policy Editor:
1. Press Windows Key + R combination and put gpedit.msc in Run dialog box to launch Group Policy Editor.
2. In the left pane navigate to to the following key :
Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System
-> Shutdown
3. Now look in the right pane, you will get the policy named "Require use of fast startup" as shown in above screenshot.
4. Double click on this policy to get the window shown as below :
5. Now click on enable option and apply it and click on ok.
Now restart your PC to see the result.
Force “Hybrid boot” to be always turned on = Enable
Do NOT force “Hybrid boot” to be always turned on = Disabled/Not configured (Default Setting)
